Vocabulary #8

Cursory- something done quickly with only one small attention to detail
(UC's have always done a cursory overview on student applications who's resume's are not impressive)
Impetus- force to make something happen
(I dislike when my mother is constantly impetus towards the regulations of my future)
Pinnacle- highest point
(The pinnacle point in my life is when I succeed to graduate college)
Contumely- Rudeness, insult
(Jessica shows contumely with emotion towards the acts of civil rights movement for African American's)
Bereavement- have been deprived
(The three son's had been left in bereavement after the mother's death)
Cache- place for storing provisions
(Jack in the box has a cache for it's different supply of food)
Consummation- fulfillment
(Couples who cannot get pregnant find consummation in adopting children)
Calamity- event bringing terrible loss
(911 left a calamity to the economic world forever and will never be forgotten)
Avarice- desire for wealth
(Many people who grow up with little, likely grow and strive to become avarice)
Fortify- To strengthen and secure
(It takes a great barrier of mental strength to fortify one's emotions stability after being in war for so long)
Erratic- lacking consistency
(Students are erratically brain dead in this generation of today)
Ubiquitous- being/seeming to be everywhere
(Children with ADHD are ubiquitously active)
Fortitude- strength of mind
(Military soldier's are mostly told to fortitude themselves when dealing with emotions, before combat)
Nonchalant- unconcerned
(How could one be so nonchalant to events that bring calamity)
Affect- to have influence/cause of something
(The 15th amendment had such a great affect on the African American's back in the day)(Willie is going to get a high score on his quiz which will have a greater affect on his grade)
Effect-Influence/ result
(Japan's defeat by the Russians had a great effect on the Chinese people) (Makayla's verbal abuse is going to effect Lisa's self esteem)
Misappropriate- unethical
(Many law firm's use misappropriate charges in any of their cases, making people think they are getting the best lawyer's the more money paid)
Pragmatic- concerned with facts/ practical
(It's pragmatic for teacher's to find themselves self conscious of what they teach when student's show no effort)
Metacognition- thinking about one's own mental process
(My big question in life leaves me with the metacognition of the possible answers)
Devoutly- devoted to divine service/worship
(Once I am in the military I will devoutly set forth to fortitude my all, sweat, blood, and tears)
