Filter Bubbles

I learned a different perspective on Google and the internet itself. I really did not think much into it but yes it has crossed my mind about how technology master minds us humans through web. Now that I understand more of how TED talks' have introduced me to this type of knowledge, I have no secrets, nothing is personal, space is invaded through web! The internet should be questioned and maybe a meeting with the founders on how to make it less robot controlling like. I'm going to start searching through duckduckgo.com!!!!!!!!! A research tool on the web where it's not like Google and profiles you by what you click, what browser is being use, and where your sitting position is.

Tools that change the way we think!

"Back in 2004, I asked [Google founders] Page and Brin what they saw as the future of Google search. 'It will be included in people's brains,' said Page. 'When you think about something and don't really know much about it, you will automatically get information.' 'That's true,' said Brin. 'Ultimately I view Google as a way to augment your brain with the knowledge of the world. Right now you go into your computer and type a phrase, but you can imagine that it could be easier in the future, that you can have just devices you talk into, or you can have computers that pay attention to what's going on around them and suggest useful information.' 'Somebody introduces themselves to you, and your watch goes to your web page,' said Page. 'Or if you met this person two years ago, this is what they said to you... Eventually you'll have the implant, where if you think about a fact, it will just tell you the answer." -From In the Plex by Steven Levy (p.67)

Responce: Internet has completely changed the way people think now a days. The technology from today is like our cruches. Just liike the TED talk, google thinks for us now, a machine judges what we like by what we first click on our browser. The technology does so much for us and makes things so much easier in just about everything we do. We live in a system of where Robots control just about everything. But how to balance out what we ourselves have control over and what we let control us without knowing. The new founding of the NSA! I did not know that existed or the 12 year old boy who was brilliant at hacking the government system just to get codes for his games! It is good and bad, i know when i use technology it can be time consuming and my train of thought is somewhere else than my own. It depends on what im doing as well. Confrontation-communication is a huge notice of negative effect that technology has impacted on us. We use texting, email, skype or whatever to communicate through whether than face to face. There are so many factor's that go into my opinion of technology and the internet but I wonder if I am entitled to my opinion if not the opinion of my knowledge coming from what i have learned from the internet.

Literature Analysis #3

Topics/ Events
The book I read is called Wild Swans by Jung Chang. The author shares her story starting with her grandmother, the first generation and ending with the author herself, third generation.  A brutal life story from the beginning.
My belief, for the reason being this book was written is because, the passion for writing that Chang has. In addition, to let her story be told of a crucial life that she had to go through. It still happens today, and that is why it's known that china will not publish her books or any other that are connected to it.
I choose this book believing it would be good to know some history and it was a random choice but it also was recommended by my cousin who fell in love with it. Therefore I took the chance and read it. The title is catchy and sounds fancy to me. Now I have a set of point of view to how it relates to the book, and why the title was chosen. After reading the first two pages, I had to go back and skim through it one more time to make sure I understood the text. It caught me with surprise and had me wondering a little more. From there I kept my interest in the book until the end. More an more information, facts, events in the book just took me by surprise and I had to keep digging for answers. The hard part for me was understanding vocabulary and the context, somehow I just got lost on some of it.
This book is realistic and to prove so, there are facts and research, and witnesses to the event's that took place. There is a connection to the author and some of the event's that happen in the book. They are deep and It has been the only book so far I emotionally connect with. It is unbelievable to me because I could not imagine such calamity in a country, and now I know!

People
The author does create her own interpretation of some characters in the book and although their real character's and some names are give, it' not all there. The author even explains from the beginning that some characters are classified for particular reasons.
If we would have personally met those characters year's ago, our perspectives would be completely different. If an identity has to confidential, I believe there is a good reason for it and of course the personality of that person is going to be different as well with everybody, cautiousness. The choices done by the author tell me about her character a little bit. For example, when pushed to marry someone who she did not love or even like, and the man's father being on his death bed, gave her courage to stand up and say no. She was not going to marry someone she did not love an lie to herself although she felt sad. But it was a situation where it would manipulate the marriage because of the dying father.
The grandmother, Yu-Fang, was described as a concubine. She is the first wild swan. Her feet were inward from breaking them in at such a young age because it was the rule in order to find a wealthy husband to take any interest in her. Small, petite, bright, quiet, and obedient. Her fictional character would be indirect. Mysteriously interesting and giving some character to someone understated in such manner.
De-Hong being the second wild swan in the book, is a rebellious, courageous, cautious, and bright girl. Not only did she have the determination and ambition to stand out one day but in which she accomplished successfully years after. Now her character would be direct because the personality already is brought to attention and even as like an animated or cartoon character that is fictional, having these personalities would be interesting.
These two character's are so interesting to write about because of a connection I have with them. Also, they stand out and are the couple of main people in the book. They are brought up several times and each time giving new information about them or that involves them. The personalities have a reflection on me because I emotionally compare myself to these two character's. That is what makes them so interesting in my perspective.
  Direct Characterization:
"He was very bright and knowledgeable, and my mother respected him tremendously."
  Indirect Characterization:
"Being in intelligence gave "Loyalty" power, which brought him money. Gradually he began to change."
Giving both approaches just may be the authors perspective on how she saw certain characters. The way I see it is if used in direct tone, it may be factual but if character is described indirectly than that's her own perspective and not factually known to her best knowledge. In some results I can understand what the character means and can get a clear image of the character. But when it's indirect, I take it for my own view on how I would see the character with some pointer tips from the author.
The author's phase does change when describing or talking about a character. It seems to come off as more emotion or just usage of vocab that gives me a hard time to understand the passage. The Protagonist stays the same through out the story. Always strong in their own way and make it through to be what they were the whole story. The protagonist is round and is tied to just about every event described in the book.

 Styles
The author used a journalistic style of writing. For example, "On the night of the festival in 1944, my mother and grandmother were sitting under a trellis covered with winter melons and beans, gazing through the gaps in the shadowy leaves into the vast, cloudless sky." In this quote it gives the facts, and states what had happened that night described. Letting her memory stroll back to that night.
Several structures are rolled into this book. Some people or places are lengthy description's and mostly the text is put into action. This type of work used makes me understand more of the book and gives me a better aspect of how to look on the main issue to the passages.
The tools used by the author is directed by the phrase and subjects to words used in the passage. The phrases comes off as respectful and confident. Also the personality with the words and dialect used to create a mood for the reader. And sometimes it's just how the author feels and just puts it out there, therefore creating an effective mood coming from the author directly to the reader.
The attitude I got from it was just informative and fragile. There is allot of events created in calamity in several different ways. Fragile to talk about and understand what the author had went through, the feeling is sometimes just unbearable because of the image described and it becomes visual when added detail is set forth in mind.
It did not matter in my thinking of what the author's resources were because I was so into what she had to say in the book. At point I was curious to how the reader got her resources but then later in some parts it informs me that she had either got it from another witness or saw it somewhere and even talked to certain people (dialogue) described in the book.
I will not take life for granted, it opened my eyes to more knowledge according to history about china and such. The point was to be heard, in my opinion for what the author had gone through. Her passion ended up being writing and that is beautiful to see in someone who went through some tough times in life, have the potential to not give up and find something they enjoy, not letting herself be discouraged by other's.

Bonus:
In my book, the key people learned allot towards the end and came out to be wise. Without experience and a few mistakes one grows wiser and not ignorant. It is told in the end of the book a brief explanation of how those character's are today. For example the third generation of the wild swans is now in London and has a Ph. D degree in linguistics and is content from what I understood.

Activity 28
In the beginning the article speaks about how people are squeamish to the idea of putting a price tag to an individual's life. From here the details and statement's followed by saying that companies tend to pay out settlement's depending on injuries vs. death. Not all companies are this way but some don't seem to care as explained. Even if it was the affect to an employee's death, to not care enough to pay for their injuries. In this passage it seems to talk about a human life, the quality behind an individual. The working environment revolved around life is what affects a human's worth of their own life, as it seems.

Activity 29/30:
If it were Hamlet taking a look at Amanda Ripley's article I believe he would abide by the feeling she put's out into the article itself. The concept of choice in Hamlet and the statement on putting a price on a human's life worth has some connections into thought. Where Hamlet Contemplates on the effect of his uncles thrown is in comparison with how Amanda exclaims companies decision of an individual's death. Just like in 9/11, the despaired and traumatized nation, financially, emotionally, and politically infested with negativity. It ties together and i believe would see eye to eye with Hamlet.
 Activity 31:
The article is unbiased in the perspective of interviewing the families and stating the effects left by the event. Through thought it comes off to be emotional and non prejudice. Open minded to the distraught population that has been affected which financially affects the one's in charge of paying for the damage.
In the beginning it all begins with statistics and going into deeper evidence that involves personal view's that are factual as eye witness to the event. The personal statements and stories have an emotional effect on the reader, it is hard to not vision or think of how the personal view's cannot be disturbed by such huge event, affecting millions of other's.
I Believe that the publication and Amanda are to be trusted in this case. Publications are known to be over exaggerated but with such case that affected millions, it is a sensitive historic event that would not be fake and left to be untold as a lie. I'm sure agencies would be strict on the media's regulations when this event happened.
There is definitely emotion involved with the reader when the personal stories are introduced. They are stories that are too profound to even overview. The logic comes within the facts stated and statistics used to enforce the point given.
Activity 32: Entry to chart

Avtivity 26: Making predictions and asking questions

1) My prediction about the content of the article due to what the subtitle claims, it is going to talk about the debts it has left the nation. How people's lives were affected not only emotionally but also financially. Much detail will be included in the article because it clearly left a huge crisis on the the state, the people, the world. 2) The connection between our first article of, "What is a life worth," and the article from Steve Jobs is the theme of writing. They both have the similar titles of 'what is life worth' and 'what is a life worth.' I'm sure that they both will have smiliar content of texts in their article. My question is what would be their purpose and main points in their perspectives of each article. 3)The article seems to me as if it is going to speak in somewhat the perspective of first person but also dialogue because the tittle does seem to infer that it is dedicated to those who were affected in the 9/11 event. Skimming through the sections of writing, that is what I seem to get from it.

Activity 25: Surveying the text

In my anticipation I believe the committed time to read this article is less than 30 minutes with full concentration. The body paragraphs are short but I'm sure there is main points to each and every one which can be time consuming to understand what each point is leading to the next body paragraph.
I have read Hamlet a couple of times and that piece of writing was short but more time consuming because of the text and concept, the words chosen and the format. More deep thinking was required into Hamlet's piece of, "To be or not to be."
The publication I know is from Shakespeare himself I believe in the 1600's is when he published his piece of writing.
The type of writing is found to be cognitive thinking. The decision that needs to be made is described attached to results of the thrown. It has a sense of metacognition.
I have seen this kind of writing in schools of education more likely or individuals who love plays or who are writers themselves and like Shakespeare for inspiration.

Melancholy Grad

A wise man once said, "Experience is not what happens to a man. It is what a man does with what happens to him." -Aldous Huxley
We have been through the depths of the high's and low's of our lives. My decision to be here today has devoutly effected my strength. To work or not to work our selves off is a metacognition that is ubiquitous amongst everyone today. I fortify my attitude and decisions today, I have reached the pinnacle to my life. The bereavement I am left with may be erratic but built metacognition when the thought to fortitude weaknesses into strength. 'To be or not to be! let the mind learn and decisions consume our faith, Thank you!

Literature Analysis #2

Topic/Event
"Bossypants" by Tina Fey is a remarkably funny and entertaining book. Tina goes into the basic stories from her past to her present future, adding sense of humor, ridicule, smart ass remarks. Her point is getting her story across, how it began that has lead to where her success is now.
In the introduction Tina explains, "Each component of  this book was selected to provide you with the maximum book performance, whatever your reading needs may be." She does point out examples of why she would write this book. She is a business woman and entertainer.
This book stood out to me because for one- I recognized her from the comedy show Saturday Night Live and two-the book cover. So I read the first page of introduction and after a few lines of reading she hooked me in with her sense of humor. After that I knew this was the book I wanted to read and clearly interested in.
This book is real talk to me, just straight forward and no sugar code. I really enjoyed this book and it connected to me because of the work ethics she goes through in this book, the settings I get caught up in include sense of humor but honesty from the author's perspective.

People
In this book, it is correct that not all character's are true some names are used to hide the identity of the real person the author is talking about. Also the observations viewed by the author just has me to think that there is a reason to such discrete character's. I don't  know how to really take it but I know there is a reason for everything.
Tina's dad was described as a well respected and serious looking man. He was known as Don Fey and he is to be known someone you don't want to mess with. He acted with dignity and honor walking around as a business man with high value and taste.
Tina Fey is an ordinary gal living in the fast lane to success. She is known as intelligent, persistent, go getter and bossy. This character gains respect much because of her ethics and her hard work and her values tie into how she is full time on the job like crazy, while being a mother and married.
These two character's catch my eye for how they are described and their importance in the book, the father has an important role because he is talked about in the beginning and has a whole chapter about him before moving on to any other. Tina herself is described by people who have opinionated much of her appearance. She describes herself through her life experiences but with such great sense of humor, she doesn't sugar code anything, just straight forward and honest. Her thought's and a short biography about her is what takes my interest.
Indirect- "In my opinion Tina Fey completely ruined SNL. The only reason she's celebrated is because she's a woman and an outspoken liberal. She has not yet a single funny bone in her body." -Jerkstore
"Jimmy Fallon, who was arguably the star of the show at the time, turned to her and in a faux-squeamish voice said, "Stop that! It's not cute! I don't like it."
Direct
"And, more important, for all those years that I was sure that boys could tell when I had a loaf-of-bread-sized maxi pad going up the back of my pants, they actually had no idea."
"The point is, Lorne did not do what I would have done, which is to say, "Your being crazy. Get back in here. Everyone else is here. Do you think you're more important than everybody else?" -Tina
It's good to have indirect characterization in her book because it's not all about the author, it adds detail to the book, some evidence to her main point in the passages. It let's me know Tina is honest and has a good image to help the reader understand. The direct is clear good support for herself as the narrator and main character in the whole book.
The diction of Tina changes within her writing and it can be seen and sensed when there are comments written of her opinion. How she personally views or shows evidence. But the tone can be negative by what words are chosen to describe or used in a sentence.
The protagonist is dynamic in her book and keep's a reader hooked. The words chosen, sentence structure, personal evidence.
In my reaction I feel as If I met Tina in someway. She did not give anyone much fictional characteristics. Everything is put into a real life perspective. Just felt honesty bringing the book to life when the story is known to be real and the author is straight forward with their reader's.
Style
The style chosen to write this book is more journalistic than anything. When she describes her father, her teenage experiences, she does not symbolize her life, she is straight forward and a little blunt. Or even when Tina get's her first job, feelings, opinions are put into place.
The description to some settings and people described come to be simple and some just a little longer. Mostly it is spoken into dialogue mode and this gives the impression of being real with the reader. I at least feel as if it is that way and the connection to just being open and having a sense of humor gives a good vibe to keep someone interested.
On some chapter's the authors mood changes into sarcasm or straight forward or even a little pissed off. It is hidden behind the sarcasm written.
Tina uses company names in her book but nothing cited or copied into the book, just her brief life and herself come out the book. This does not affect my reading, I enjoy these types of book with direct dialogue, it jumps at me and catches me knowing the author's style of words and/or style of writing.

This book has given me a sense of attitude I want to say, it has just made me laugh and think behind her humor, mostly her work ethics. She describes it to be hard in the industry when there is controversy about woman not being made to be funny and how they female's aren't funny in general. That catches my attention because for some reason I thought about woman's rights. It somehow connected to my thought and how it still happens today, discriminating against woman's ethical work. I really enjoyed the book and would recommend to read it. It is hilarious in my opinion and one has to have an open mind to sense of humor.
